March 26, 2008 - BEARS BEAT DARBY IN OPENER

The 17th ranked Upper Arlington Golden Bears got the 2008 season started Wednesday night with a convincing 16-3 win over visiting Hilliard Darby.

The Bears jumped out to a 11-0 halftime lead and were never threatened in the season opener at Marv Moorehead Stadium.

"For a lot of guys to have their first opportunity to be starters, to be leaders is huge," Head Coach Ted Wolford said. "It's important to get your feet wet and get this one done. We know as the season progresses we will have to play better
than we did tonight. We'll get better with each practice and each game situation."

Senior midfielder Nolan Kleinhenz and Dylan Treece led the Golden Bears with three goals apiece. Kyle Frost added two goals and two assists as did senior captain Adam Donahue. Senior Eric Hanover had three assists on the night.

"It was good to get out of the gates and get the victory early and then go on," added Wolford, now in his 17th season
as the UA Head Coach.

Kleinhenz returned from injury and a 10-day layoff to play in the season opener. "One of the good things was having Nolan back after missing our spring trip," Wolford said. "Tonight was really his first opportunity to play. So we're happy
he's back after it and going. Hopefully all year it will be a team effort and many people will contribute."

Senior captain and goalie Alex Benedick was flawless in goal while junior Teddy Dugger and sophomore Daniel Kloos
also saw time against the Panthers.

UA will tackle its annual mulch delivery this weekend and return to action Saturday April 5th at 7:30 pm against
Cincinnati Moeller at Marv Moorehead Stadium.
