4 , 2008 - GOLDEN BEARS KEEP ROLLING
The Upper Arlington mens lacrosse team pushed its record
to 11-2 and extended its winning streak to five games
with a pair of home victories on successive nights,
15-2 over Toledo St. John and 15-6 over Wooster. The
Golden Bears will cap a three-game homestand with Senior
Night Wednesday May 7th at 7:30 pm against Hilliard
Davidson.
"It's nice to get two here," said UA Head
Coach Ted Wolford. "Emotionally after coming down
from Kilbourne and knowing full well you've got to play
two back to back and it can be exhausting. The guys
played pretty well in spurts and we got the job done."
Friday night the Bears mauled St. John but started slow
against Wooster Saturday before kicking it into high
gear. "I would like to take care of the ball a
little better. We were a little sloppy in the first
quarter (against Wooster) but the guys came out in the
second quarter and were able to finish on some situations
that were handed to us."
The Bears offense seems to be moving the ball with more
rhythm and pace than early in the season. "That's
the big push for us and we need to improve upon that,"
added Wolford, "and guys being a little less selfish,
make sure the ball
belongs to the team and not one individual. Once we
do those kind of things we're going to get a lot better
looks."
The Bears front-line attack led the scoring against
Wooster with senior Eric Hanover scoring four goals,
senior captain Adam Donahue three and junior Alex Drake
two goals. UA led 6-2 at the break before a third-quarter
surge put the game away. Senior captain Alex Benedick
played three quarters and had five saves. Junior Teddy
Dugger and sophomore
Daniel Kloos split the fourth quarter. Dugger had a
pair of saves and Kloos had one.
After the Davidson game on Wednesday, the Bears will
look to the weekend trip to Cincinnati to face St. Xavier
and Indian Hill as a preview of the Midwest tournament
as they'll stay overnight and play St. X at 8 pm on
Friday and Indian Hill at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon.
"It's almost like a dry run for the Midwest (tournament)
and we'll see how we do. We'll make sure we talk about
that and be ready to go there."
