3, 2008 - STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY, UA AND KILBOURNE
FOR 3RD TIME
Two teams who have already exchanged a few bumps
and bruises will meet for the third time this season
Saturday afternoon. Four-time defending state champ
Upper Arlington will face 18-3 Worthington Kilbourne
at 5 pm at Dublin Coffman to decide the Ohio High School
Lacrosse Association title. The Bears advanced by virtue
of a 14-6 win over Cincinnati St. Xavier Tuesday night
while homestanding Kilbourne ousted Hudson 18-12.
"That's the way it is," said UA Head Coach
Ted Wolford of another matchup with rival Kilbourne.
"That's the bottom line. We've played them twice
and we have to see if we can get it done one more time.
Our guys are psyched to play for a state title. That
was a goal we had at the beginning of the year and now
we have that chance."
Wolford talked about the challenge of facing a talented
Kilbourne team that has been ranked above UA most of
the year. "They have two All-Americans in (Nick)
Beattie and (Andrew) Wilfong." Both are senior
attackmen. "They are loaded at midfield. They have
a good goalie and good close defense. It will be two
athletic teams getting after it and trying to take care
of business."
UA won the previous match-ups with Kilbourne by scores
of 13-10 and 11-7.
Also Saturday, the club championship game will be played
at 11 am and the Division II title game at 2 pm. A seven
dollar pass is good for all three games at Dublin Coffman
High School.
